PostSubject: Well done Ellie   Sun 23 Oct 2011, 9:48 pm

I'm looking after Ellie for Bryon and Alison and have noticed that when we went out on our walks yesterday and today that she was very stressed just being on the lead on the way up to the playing fields. She's always been like this since they got her but I think them being away has made it worse. She was pulling then coming back to heel but every yard or so and it got to be hard work.

Anyway, to cut a long story short as they say, I got my thinking cap on and decided to put her on our split lead with Elsdon, so she's not pulling me, she's pulling him and I put the anti pull spring on it. And do you know it worked! I'm amazed! She was so relaxed and any time she did pull she didn't stress about it she just came back to heel with Elsdon. We had a really nice relaxed walk tonight, albeit on a long lead as the split lead and the spring made it longer but I didn't have to tell her to heel once!

I'm so proud of her and of course Elsdon, my boy, my goodness he could start to be a healing dog if I'm not careful. love

It didn't work as well as last night but then I think she was soooo ready for a good run around on the playing fields. I'm trying to get her to be calm before we go out but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Any ideas anyone?

No ideas as such except don't make going out a high value experience whilst you are still at home or trying to get them in the car, be calm and relaxed and make them wait for leads and collars to go on as quietly as you can and don't mention "walkies" or anything else in an excited tone, but rather just go about your business.

Thanks for your input Sandi, I don't make it exciting at all but she just runs around in circles getting over excited. Ruby and Elsdon have always just waited until I put their leads on and been calm spinner smile I'll think of something.
