PostSubject: Problems at night time with my two   Mon 26 Dec 2011, 5:28 pm

Recently Chloe started to get into Reubens bed with him which in turn caused him to wake up and jump on our bed

I bought Chloe a piece of vet bed and extra blankets, one covering the entrance to her crate and this seemed to do the trick.

I then bought a faux fur throw for our bed as it got colder and Reuben then started to jump on our bed during the night so I bought him one for his bed and again this seemed to stop him.

However, Chloe must have realised he had one as she then started to get out of her bed again and get in with Reuben who in turn then jumped on our bed.

So I bought Chloe a faux fur throw for her bed hoping this would do the trick but it hasn't. She keeps getting out of her bed into Reubens who then jumps on ours and constantly disturbs my sleep. I could handle it if he wanted to sleep at the bottom but he wants to lie on my legs.

Last night he was up about 5 times, the last two occasions chloe was still in her bed.

I am at a loss as to what to do with them. If I leave them out of the room they whimper and cry to come in. I do have the option of zipping Chloes crate shut but I am worried it may disorientate her.

I have tried tucking Reuben in and I don't think it is the cold as it is pretty mild at the moment. I did buy him a crate for our room but it is too big for the space in the room and the next size down would not be big enough for him

Any thoughts?

I can't help but suggest you get into Chloe's crate and leave Chloe and Reuben to keep Ian up all night instead lol

Sorry Jo, couldn't resist. It's Chloe that's initiating it all so how about zipping her up but making sure there is some light in there? How about a child's plug in night light, so it doesn't keep you all awake but there is enough light if she wakes up?

I'd say buy a smaller crate then Jo , if he keeps jumping up he needs stopping so I'd be putting him back into the spare room you have ,
Jo I have a spare 36"x36" (i think) crate at work which I have as a back up if this is smaller than one you have & will fit in the gap you have you more than welcome to borrow it & give it a try ??????
Let me know if you want to use it

Thanks Martin, the one I have now is 36" wide and 24" deep. There is no room in the spare room now as we converted it to an office with a wrap around desk.
It may have to be the front room for them both

I dont think they are cold Linda, they have plenty of bedding and they are both tucked in.

The crate Chloe has is ideal and would fit the space I have but they are expensive and I cannot afford another. It is a fabric crate rather than a metal one and is collapsable. I got it from the shelter in the summer and they did not have another at the Xmas fair although they had something similar but it is too small

If it's really bothering you and if Chloe will settle there - get them in the front room at night. A poor nights sleep isn't helping any of you.

I'd gladly send you one of my fabric crates to use Jo, but you'd have to wait until the New Year so I could send it by carrier (won't cost me much) sorry, I know that's days away yet? But the offers there if you need it.

PostSubject: Re: Problems at night time with my two   Tue 27 Dec 2011, 10:15 am

Thanks Jan, I have just posted to see if anyone is selling an extra large one on tameside pets for sale. I am going to sell my metal crate to pay for it.

I dont want to buy brand new as they are £42.

Last night I shut Chloe in her cage and Reuben did not jump up until 5.30 when he was disturbed by Ian going to the loo, he then tried to get on a further 3 times before I got up at 7.30

I may take you up on your offer Jan (and will pay carriage), can you let me know the size when you get home please xx

Awwww its no fun when your doggies wake you - Rocco used to wake me every 2 hours grrrrr xx

I would suggest either crates as it seems Chloe may just want the comfort of Reuben at night - xx

Are you able to train him not to get on your bed in the first place?

He never used to at one point Sel but someone allowed him to get up every morning after I went to work or if he went to bed before me.

It is very hard to get him out of the habit now but will try anything

I have a material crate, but Don't think it would be big enough for Reuben. What size are you after? Indie chewed all round the zip, so It cant be zipped up x

It's big enough for Elsdon to sleep in comfortably so should be ok for Reuben. No worries about the carriage, we get it cheaper than the public as we have a contract with Nightfreight. If you don't find anything just give me a shout and I'll send it as soon as I get back to work xxx
