PostSubject: LIZs -Hello   Mon 27 Feb 2012, 1:10 pm

Hi, thank you for accepting my registration. I had a staffy x for 13 years and she was an absolute darling. Last year we got a bullmastiff x from Battersea, so I am interested in learning more about such breeds and love reading about other people's experiences of having a dog in the family. LoLa settled in immediately when we brought her home and is a sweetheart. We had a couple of issues when she gained her confidence, but we seem to be dealing with them. Liz.

Hi! What a lovely welcome. Yes only rescue dogs for me. Although LoLa is the only one I have chosen myself, with the help of the Battersea rehoming team of course. She had been there for four months, maybe because of her size, so I am very chuffed that they thought we were suitable when we rolled up or she may have been there for some time longer. We fell in love with her because of having lived with a darling staffy x for 13 years and some of the characteristics are similar. However I wasn't prepared for some of the negative reactions it is possible to get when out walking, I guess beause of her bully face and size. Even the vet was a bit wary of her when I took her for her vaccinations! It's tough 'cos we know that she is a sweetie and so gentle and she loves it when my daughters' friends come here, even if they are boisterous. We weren't looking for a 'status' dog, just fell for her when she came up to me and kissed my hand! Love the pics of all your lovely dogs. Will try to provide one of my LoLa, but will have to enlist the help of more savvy daughters as am a bit dumb on that front. x

Hi Liz, I'm new to the forum, too. We took Bertie in when he was abandoned on the beach & our friend, whose 13 year old son had somehow ended up taking home(!!!), was advised to 'just have him put to sleep' because none of the rescue shelters wanted yet another staffie cross.

I sympathise with your comment about negative reactions - we've had a few people saying that he looks like a pitbull so he's dangerous & should be put down! The trainer we are working with us has measured Bertie & he does not fit the 'pitbull type' specifications. Years back a friend had a pitbull & she was the nicest dog you could meet.

I'm also hoping to be able to post some pics of Bertie - but he doesn't pose well & I'm even going to try to be dead fancy & add some video of him too, cos he's much better at 'action shots' - but that'll probably go wrong.

Really looking forward to seeing pics of Lola!

Sue x

Hi Sue thanks for your message. Bless, found on a beach it' s crazy. So good that he found you and that you are doing all you can to protect him. One of my previous dogs was found by my colleagues tied to a lamp post in London and she was in season. She helped me bring up my babies and lived to a good age, though it was hell when we had to make the decision to release her from a life that was going downhill. LoLa is a darling, with all the loving staffy characteristics but bigger so very easy to stroke! I will eventually try to add pics, but at the moment navigating this site is challenging for me! Best wishes, Liz.
