PostSubject: Poorly Rosy :(   Mon 26 Mar 2012, 10:14 am

Rosy was fine last night, got up this morning and she was shaking her head from side to side and trying to scratch inside her ear. I have had a look and it isn't too inflamed but there is a bit of yellow discharge :(( Not sure if its ear mites (looking a bit brown in there) or an ear infection. So far she is fine when resting or asleep but if she goes to do anything she starts to shake her head slowly.

Off to the vets I think!

Not nice - poor Rosy.

Every year, as soon as it got sunny, Midge always managed to get at least one grass seed in her ear.

Hope the trip to the vet isn't too expensive! x

Luckily the glorious sunshine is more important to her so she is lounging in various parts of the lounge or garden snoozing. Its weird how these things come on, she always has such lovely clean ears but it might explain her mood at the end of last week! Got an appointment at 2:20 today. I asked her nicely not to cost me tooooo much and her reply was 'RoooRoar!' but not entirely sure if that was a promise lol!

Sounds like she's still in good spirits. lol!

If it's an infection it could have been bothering her for a few days without you knowing it was there, so it may have been affecting her behaviour.

Back from the vets! Vet has said her right ear is beautifully clear and her left is wonderful deep inside with no signs of infections, bit inflamed just inside. Vet thinks something has irritated her ear and she has scratched it causing a bit of inflamation and by scratching she is just aggravating it. Been given metacam as a pain killer. Also had her anal glands done, apparently they were nicely full lol! Rosy looked quite shocked when that was done lol. All in £45 so hats off to Rosy for keeping it low! Also got her 3 months of Advocate which was £23. Really thought it would be waaaaaaaay more than that :D

Rosy has resumed her sunbathing session in the garden :)

OMG shes still scooting?! Is it just maybe a bit left? Or shes thinking clean as you go?!

Have given the metacam, went down fine as she was in a hurry to get back to her stuffed kong lol. Got to Advocate tomorrow, going to do it and then straight out for a walk as she completely freaked out and went mental last time I applied it :/

I want to give her ear a clean as its a bit gunky, would plain cooled boiled water and cotton pads be ok? I'm not going to delve, just want to get some of the icky stuff cleaned up. The ear is really bothering her :(

I wouldp probably use warm water and a cotton pad as it may be a bit sticky and Gunky

I have used baby wipes in the past though and have found them to be quite god

Thanks Jo, really feel for her, its making her quite grouchy today so just wondering if cleaning it will ease the irritation. She had her dinner and metacam and is now snoring her head off in bed.

Can you think of anything else that might help?

Sounds like you've got it covered - she's free from any pain and if you keep it gently cleaned it will help her feel comfortable too...and it's a good excuse for extra cuddles lol!

She'll soon be fine xx

Baby wipes are so useful !! We use them all the time for ours.

Thanks just given it a good clean, lots of brown gunk :( Not a good smell, I would have said it was infected :(

I have applied some tea tree skin cream and put a buster collar on....she is currently sulking in the sun :( Vet suggested bandaging her back leg to stop scratching but she would have that off in a few seconds flat.

Bed number 2 was shredded in the night, back to just her fleece blankets then!

Buster collars a good idea to keep her from bothering it.

omg another bed already !! You might be better off giving beds a miss until she loses that destructive habit ?

Were they the same type of beds by any chance, I sometimes wonder if they do this shredding to get at the inside - maybe the smell attracts them. scratch

Sounds like you need a tougher cover ?

I think I would be inclined to give the vets a call, I may be wrong but I have only ever used Metacam for muscular injuries and inflammations. I am not sure how effective it is for infections.

She may need some antibiotics or drops if there is an infection in there

Good advice above, I would say if she continues today to phone the vet and have a chat to see what they can suggest.

The vet said no infection is present and its just inflamed so gave metacam as pain killer. She said bandage foot to stop scratching and allow healing. Will see how she goes with the cream and collar and if no better we will be back to the vets.

Bed no 1 was fleece, bed no 2 was cord covered. She's got 2 fleece blankets which seem to get spared so just going to leave them in for now.
