PostSubject: Merle staffie   Sun 15 Apr 2012, 2:14 pm

We met a female staffie on our walks today, she was Merle but what was very unusual was that she was blue and brown merle, the blue being predominant at her front end.

I was hoping to chat to the owners but Reuben was a git with her on introductions so they left quite quickly. I did notice she had blue eyes and looked like she had cherry eye in one of her eyes.

Hopefully we will meet them again so I can have a chat with them about her markings/colourings

I've never seen a merle Staffy - I did see an advert for pups once and it just didn't seem right to me.

I wonder if it's deliberate or accidental.

This is similar to her colouring Martin, however her back end was brown merle?

Don't think its genetically possible for a true SBT to be merle so im guessing it must have been a crossbreed

Could still be a merle - My Indie (border collie) is a Blue tricolour mele.

I would say that it has to have been crossed with collie somewhere to have the merle characteristic though.

Not sure, I have been trying to find out but they are not popular. Seen a couple of write ups about merle pits but nothing really on the staffs

Was going to say that, the Merle is a colour still in the pit breedings, so there will be staffys somewhere with this colour still in

The Merle is classed as a fault in the Staffy, same as Dudley nose, not a fault in my books though Loads of Love

It can't possibly be 100% SBT it would have to have crossbreeding somewhere along the line in its history to have that colouring.
Also, i am not aware merle being a fault is accurate because its not recognised at all as a colour within the breed unlike the blue, tri colour etc
