PostSubject: Diesel Paw and Lump   Sun 03 Jun 2012, 6:33 am

I am after any suggestions please - and why do these things happen over a bank holiday?

I think Diesel may have got an infection or thron in his paw - he was limping yesterday and I had assumed it was his shoulder again as Paul and Diesel were have a man to dog playtime lol

This morning Diesel came to me in bed and cried and lifted his paw - when I looked under - there is a black soft swollen lump bewtween his toes - he can hardly put any weight on it

I will try get pics this evening - but any ideas please x

Does sound like he may have something in there Suzie, how good is he at letting you examine it in more detail?

I would stand it in some warm salty water and see if you can see anything and see if you can squeeze it ever so slightly.

The problem with paws is that it can be the tiniest thing that could have been in there for a couple of days and now it is infected so you may need some antibiotics.

Are your vets open today?

Aww poor thing.

As above boil the kettle let the water cool to warm and try and soak his paw in it for a while and see what you can see.

Awww poor boy, it always happens on a bank hol!
Do you think it could possibly be a sting or bite?
If so you could try him with some piriton to see if the swelling goes down x
Get well soon Diesel x

Yep sounds like a grass - seed or maybe a thorn.

The piriton is a good idea.

If it was one of mine I'd be tempted to give it a squeeze as the sooner it comes out - the better.

Have you got any poultice? Should draw the infection out - if there's any country stores near you you'd get it there.

ta so much for your replies and concern xx

Well I did have a really good look this morning before I had to go to my Farmers Market and it was soft so I washed it and it popped a little bit and bled - I gave him an anti biotic and now the lump has gone - I do think there maybe a thorn in there as his foot is still red and he is limping a little bit - lets hope keeping it bathed with get rid of what it is x

ta it does look better - still bathing and appling oinkment lol xx

I took a look earlier and it looks a bit weepy - like a blister does when it burst (sorry) but I have anti biotics for Diesel so keeping a close eye on it.

Good news at least his limp and chewing of the foot has stopped xx

Glad he's doing well.

Just keep an eye to make sure the scar tissue isn't covering anything x

ta

Claire I said the exact same thing to Paul today - Not sure if you remember but Diesel once yelped whilst in the garden lifted his paw and ran in - since then he won't really go onto the grass - I did a thorough check of his paw and took him to vets but we saw nothing.... I now think that maybe he was stung or bitten and this is probably a result of scar tissue building around it as its the same paw

I will be buying some Witch Hazel today as the chemist and 2 supermarket I visited yesterday didn't have any :(
