PostSubject: Problems getting into the car   Tue 12 Jun 2012, 9:55 pm

I have never had issues with Reuben and the car and he has always quite happily jumped in and sat waiting to be clipped in.

However of late I am finding it difficult to get him in after our walks, he is fine when we are getting in the car to go out.

I noticed it started at flyball. When we were not running I would put him back in the car and on occasion he would be in there on his own (but within view) and on other occasions I would sit in with him. When I tried to put him in he would refuse to get in and I would have to pick him up and put him in. He is like this everytime we go to flyball and on the odd occasion we have been out in the car he has been the same.

We have not been to flyball training for a few weeks now and he has been OK getting in the car but tonight we went back to practise again and when we had finished he refused point blank to get in the car even though he was shattered.

Any ideas on how I can work through this as I have just gotten over a bad back and he is heavy to lift into the car

Just sounds to me as if he is being stubborn Jo lol.
Can you not coax him in with a small treat to persuade to get in easily and really praise him when he does x

I think stubborn too - like he's worried he's going to miss out on the fun or he didn't like being left to sit in the car.

Can't really help as I have to hoist the girls in - they love going places...when they get there ... but I can't get them into the car without lifting them.

Yep he sounds like hes at it!!

Maybe all the excitement with flyball. Will he go in if you throw his ball in?

Ohhhhh its a strange one - as mentioned maybe try treats or the ball as Claire suggests OR maybe throw your shoe in cos he loves them lol xx

Joking aside - I think the treats or ball could work.

Aww bless him, I think he's associated getting in with being left in there. Maybe at home do some practicing to show he isn't going to be left in there maybe drive about or around the block and get him in and out a few times?
