PostSubject: why is it so hard**pic added**   Wed 15 Aug 2012, 10:03 am

it has been two months now since i have lost one of my finger down to the first knuckle (the finger nail part) and i just cant get over it and do what i need to be doing.
my physio said that i am making great progress but she has suggested that i ask my doctor for some anti depres to help me through this. i dont beleive in them, it is easy to get hooked and it does not deal with the problem.
what do you guys think. i need to start doing stuff or i am going to lose the use of my hand.
has anyone else had something amputated? how did you cope and how did you deal with it

Hiya Sam, I have never had anything amputated but my friends sister had both legs amputated below her knees.
She was sent to a hospice for rehabilition and physio was the key and she is now mobile on false legs

How long have you been having physio and how often do you see her? Its hard to use a limb when something has happened as there is a fear factor behind it but you need to push yourself through that and start using it

Anti depressants are a personal thing and not a route I would go down. Apparently you go through a dip and feel worse before you start to get better and as for getting hooked I dont know what the prognosis is

Stepping back and looking at when the injury first occured do you think it has improved or is it pretty much the same?

Hiya Sam I have never had anything amputated, I think a support group would be good as suzie suggested and the physio is important.

i am lot better and am getting better but i just cant do the massarging that is needed to stop the nerves ending being pain nerve endings.
i dont know why i am being so silly but have you ever had pain that is like a rageing fire and you feel sick, i just cant get past that, i let her do the masarge this morning crying but i let her do it but i cant do it my self and that is why she suggested anti depressants.
i dont know why i am being so silly, at the end of the day it is just a finger not even a whole one either and there are alot of people out there that would laugh at me for how stupid i am being i just cant handle the finger how i need to to get it ok...
i have completley forgiven candy it was not her fault i just cant get my head into where i need it to be.

Your not being silly at all group hug I dont know what happened with your finger Sam, but its a loss of part of you and it sounds extremely painfull indeed.

I dont know about the antidepressants, have you thought about finding a counsellor or asking your gp to refer you to one.xxxxx

Sam I am thinking a support group of some sort would help you get through some of the time with what you are going through. Ask your GP if they know of anywhere or have a look on the internet for some forums.

I hope you feel better soon and I also think anti d's are a personal choice, but as already said can be addictive.

group hug

i dont want to go down the route of anti depres, i was told many years ago that i was a manic (now they wld say i was bi polar) i spent three weeks on anti and they made me as sick as a pig.
i will set the scean for what happened
we had my brother in law crasing three nights a week, he was sat round all night saying how tired he was so at 9 i said right i am off to bed you are going to have to go in the kitchen (where he was crashing) as it was a stuido flat and the bedroom was in the front room. he got the arse. i told him to go away not very polite. we was in bed it was dark and he starts to crash around. benson was on the bed candy was at the bottom of the bed to come up benson started barking and in the process fell on top of candy they started barking at each other si grabed benson i sat up pitch black did not know where candy was and my hand came in contact with her mouth....... she bit it off.
i had two option sow back on that cld take 6 months to heal and not even heal and wld have to have more taken off or for it to be stumped over... i picked that later

Ouch! That must have hurt. If you know they don't agree with you then I would try and avoid them. Your doctor can refer you for counselling if that would help or as the others have said see if you can find something on line

Oh Sam how painful. I agree with the others, a support group of some sort and can you tolerate valium? I usually take one just before going to the dentist as I'm absolutely petrified of them, it helps me, so could you take one before going to physio?
