PostSubject: been a while need some advice!   Tue 09 Oct 2012, 9:22 am

hey sorry I haven't been on in so long been really busy with work and stuff.

I was hoping to get some advice, Russell (staffy if you forgot) is always grabbing Pickle's collar (whippet) and just shaking her like crazy! she puts up with it but she cries and I yell at him and he stops it.
I have been taking her collar off when I am out just in case something happens (like his tooth got stuck the other day) but then that kind of defeats the purpose of a collar (its on her so if she gets loose some one can identify her and call me - we use a harness for walks)

any advice to get him to stop would be awesome

Hi Meg

I would maybe stop Russell before he is able to take hold of Pickles collar. Use another word like - off and then send Russell to a corner for 5 mins and make him stay - be firm and assertive and follow through - as soon as you think Russell may take hold of the collar correct him and follow through - he will learn quickly that its not acceptable behaviour.

Good luck xx

Does he only do it whilst playing or is it constant?

thank for the tip I will have to keep a visual out! it seems to be mainly during play but I don't think she considers it as play haha. they do play a lot though so it happens frequently. now I have a harness for her and got home from a walk last night let them in the door and as soon as they were inside he grabbed her harness trying to pull her to the ground he is a rough boy!

I think the key thing here is to stop him before he even gets hold of the collar. You could shout No! or Enough! and stand between him and Pickle so that he can't do it again?

I bet Adam will have a good answer to this spinner smile
