Just have to be carefull near other dogs at the moment as i dont trust him to come back when another dog is near by , he comes back when the lead is fully out if we see another dog , but he knows i have full control there

That's a good start, make sure you are really interesting for him to come back to and you will soon have recall down to a tee, although sounds like is doing fab already.
Treats are ideal for rewarding when he comes back to you.

If you can find an enclosed area where there are no dog control orders you can practise recall in safety, I used to take Reuben to the park every Saturday to he tennis courts and did training in here with him

Everytime i go out i always forget treats LOL so he came back to me today with nothing other than my voice , but i think if there was another dog about i would need treats LOL

There really isnt anywhere thats enclosed , he comes back to me in the garden , i have a big rear garden , but if he spots a cat or gets a scent from something he can be really stubborn LOL

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh isn't it great when they recall - wait until they get a little older and know when its home time - as soon as you reach for the collar - they run off

Hi

Went on the park this morning , and i met a lady with a rotty , ever so soft , and i was telling her i had just got wiley and i had only really dared let him off away form other dogs , anyway she said let him off with her dog , so i did , then two other dogs arrived , and he was fine spinner smile   i did have to grab him in the end as there was a little brown dog that is in the pic , its only 8 months and he kept bulldozing into it and i thought he was goin to hurt it , he was only playing but i thought it was only right i keep him under control LOL anyway here is a pic of wiley and his new mates omg

He loved it linda , and the retriver in the pic , we have met that twice now , first time he was ok , second time he got abit growly with it , as he was on the lead and it kept jumping on his head  but i think that was because my mates staffy had upset him , but today cause he was running free he was fine with it , but hes a little bugger , he didnt want to play with that one or the rotty , he wanted to play with the  little brown one LOL , and thats when i got a tad worried as he is real rough , and it was only iccle LOL , then the lady with the little brown dog , was teaching hers to come back etc with treats , so i gave wiley a treat cause that one got one , but he didnt want my treats , he wanted what the other lady had

You'll get to know or not in this case the complicated, awkward and unfathomable , senseless ,mind bending foibles of the Staffy Brain.
and when you do explain them to the rest of us will you ?ha ha

Great to see him playing with doggy friends

Im just glad i saved him Jo , as from what i can gather he's had at least two owners possibly 3 and i think they have all used him as a stud dog , the person i got him off i think is dealing in dogs so not good :(  crated all day and all night at the last place , so god know's where he could of ended up if i hadnt got him , as i do beleive the person that sold him to me would of sold him to anyone for the money ,  but somebody somewhere has trained him well and i think he's been used to family life somewhere along the line just by the way he's adapted , he's been out this morning on the beach and i had him loose for most of it , i saw another dog that i knew so i left him loose and told him to wait and come back to me and he did but did get abit distracted as we got closer and he ran to her and her dog , but i have been doin this training without treat's if i can help it so he's doin well IMO , the man in the petshop yesterday said he's looking alot better , as i took him in there when i had only had him 3 days , but he said he could tell a difference in his overall appearance ,

i think aswell with him been so good he's showing just how nice a staffy can be to other ppl , touch wood altho i know one day someone will probebly give me abuse , but pl just seem to want to stroke him and they all love him so far ,  there was a little dog this morning on the way to school set off barking at another little dog , i attually crossed the road because i know what wiley can get aboit growly if something has ago at him ,  it was so obviously not lead trained or socialised in anyway , but that wouldnt get the stigma we would get , so i think its great wiley is been so good as he's shown up alot of small dogs just latly LOL

The only thing i can fault him for is when he gets excited he pee's himself , but its getting better , when i first met him he peed on me with excitement , but looking back now the poor lad had been locked in a cage and then all these ppl came to see him , my two kids and me , so he was very very excited

When we got him home , he had a few accident's the first day , he would litrally pee the minute he got excited , so we found taking him outside and getting him excited out there was best , my daughter brought her mate round to see him and he peed LOL but slowly day by day its getting better , i can get him excited in here now and hes ok , my freind comes round and he gets him silly and i watch for that pee and hes been ok , but the only time he does seem to do it now is when my husband comes home from work , so he takes him outside to greet him , hopefully it will ease so hes not doin it at all in time

He is doing so well and looks like you rescued him just in time, so many owners in such a short time cry2
He sounds like a different dog and great that the shop can see an improvement already good job

Years ago somebody was selling a staffie in a pub, can't remember if it was for ten or twenty pounds. Luckily my sister was there and rang me e so we bought the dog and brought her home. We could not keep her as we already had Tara but we found her a lovely home with one of my hubby's friends. I dread to think what could have happened to her.

So many like that tho and sadly we can't save them all :( there was a few that needed saving when i was looking , i went to view one 4 year old dog he was lovely but hadnt been trained at all , and my kids were terrified of him , he was food aggressive , vet agressive , dog aggressive , owners had had him 2 months and couldnt cope , if i didnt have any kids i may of taken him as he was lovely just needed guiding , but with kids i couldnt risk him

i have just found the breeder of wiley aswell so im asking for puppy pics now , whether they will have any i dont know LOL

edit , breeder got no puppy pics , but there abit disapointed he's had so many homes , they sold him as a puppy so that would of been roundabout august 2010 , he changed hands that i know of in march 2012 , then again in the last 6 months to the person i got him off , not the greatest start in life :( im amazed he's so well behaved least someone has took there time to train him
