PostSubject: skin probs allergies etc    Sat 26 Oct 2013, 9:51 am

Hi

I was just wondering , if a dog has allergies , or skin probs , do they usually have them early on , or can they just appear ? reason i ask is , i knew getting wiley could be a bit tricky on the old skin side of things , as blues are known to have probs , specially from blue to blue matings , but i also know that alot of other coloured staffs have probs with there skin , he's 3 and 4 months and not showing any probs at all , so that was the reason i got him , tbh i wouldnt of bought a blue puppy , i would of deffo bought a red and white if id gone the puppy route, i read that colour dilution aleopecia should of reared its ugly head by 2 to 3 years earlier in some dogs , so im hoping that wiley wont get it , but just wondered on any other skin probs ? are they mosty showing when there very young ? i know my mates staffy whos 9 has just developed a grass allergy and she's brindle , and my other mates fawn staff which again is a dilute is fine no probs as of yet

My boys are both fine now - but earlier they did suffer from flaky dandruff and red paws - but now I don't feed any wheat or gluten - Rocco avoids eggs and all seems good now.

Many breed of dog have numerous allergies from dust mites - grass - dairy - egg - wheat - red meat - chicken and rice - the list goes on xx

I beleive its due to environment or food x

Yes Mandy starts in spring when the grass starts to grow, right through until now timish.
He usually gets a steroid injection and they last about 8 weeks, but the grass was so strong this year he had to have tablets/ cream as well.
His skin is fine now, Thank goodness.

Allergies can come and go through their lifetimes and they can also change. Reuben had tests done at the vets in 2010 and I had additional tests done last year which showed different allergies

Elsdon gets a bit of pink chest from grass but it soon goes. I'm told Aloe Vera cream is good for itchy skin.
