itsjust when u cant see any light that is the problem lol. i also think with the other dogs bein well behaved both on and off the lead i couldnt see past tyne not being or see a way out of it either. i wouldnt care but the advice about turning and walkin the other way ive seen done many times and yet never thought about tryin it! i guess i was looking for a more complicated thing rather than something as simple as that that i couldnt put it in action lol. and another plus is he cant do a houdini out of his cage either i must av fixed it good lol went to the shop earlier and he was still in it wen i got back yey! lol

thanks! ive got my determinded head back on instead of the dissapointed 1 where i didnt know what 2 do next 1. i know i can do it i guess i just needed some advice as 2 how to start lol.

We have all been there Kirstie, when Gracie first came I spend more time crying over her than anything else and had nobody to turn to. I eventually worked out to keep her away from other dogs would help and it did. She also had to see the other dogs or she wouldn't have realised that dogs can be nices as well as nasty.

i havent tried his new lead on him yet but he will be going out again in a bit so im going to take him on it n try the suggestion above and i dont care that i'll look like an idiot to other people id rather have a nice walking dog rather than him taking me 4 the walk.

The turning and walking the other way will help tire him out because he will have to start using his brain.

hes a very nervous dog aswell, i noticed yestarday when we were walking past some bushes there was a bag stuck and he was curious but when the breeze moved it he went nuts barking and yet trying to get away at the same time. his behaviour is really making me think as to how he was treat by his old owners as ive still heard nothing from them since i mailed them about him chewing the door, never mind, im sure he will get there and with the help and advice from every 1 on here helping to keep me calm and collected we will get there and thankyou all again. eddie n daisy lol ive even tried taking his fav toy with us and we end up retrieving it as he has no interest at all hed rather do what he thinks he will do lol

Of course you will get there in the end and he will teach you far more about dogs than an easy dog can ever do. It won't be long before you are helping others out as well with your experiences.

His favourite toy won't work because he can have that anytime, he wants a special toy that only comes out for training. What is he like with squeaky toys? These can often get dogs to work for you but never let him have it at any other time.

well 2day was day of tynes lead training. i think it has gone well, i began walking him down to my mams house, wen he pulled i stoped turned the other way n walked, must av took me an hour to get there lol. hes already learned that once the lead loosens he stops and looks at me as if to say well come on pull me! progress i think. i even took treats for him but he wouldnt take them off me but would my hubby lol what a funny dog! at the min hes fast asleep and we have peace and its great however its not just him who is tired lol. with the progress today im hopeful that he will be much better by the end of the week.......hopefully. im so pleased with tyne and myself for being strong enough to keep going with this repetitiveness i could see it was getting to the hubby n he was gettin bored but i reminded him that it was 4 the dogs own good. i must admit that wen i turned n walked the other way tyne did a few times fall back over bless him but i just thought ul learn lol

thanks jo i feel more positive and to say its day 1 of me trying i think he did brill. i did put our taz's old harness on that tightens under his arms when he pulls and he was walking much better before i even started the turning the other way. i have ordered him a new 1 and im just waiting for it to arrive. im hopeful that by the time his classes begin he wont need the harness and i'll be able to walk him by his collar. they begin not this friday but next i think ive just made my 1st goal lol

Well done, you do need to turn BEFORE he is pulling, I turn as soon as my dog's head goes in front of my hip, this teaches him to walk next to you on a loose lead. Also the chances of him nearly being pulled over are very slim.

I am so proud to know you, you are doing remarkably well. worthy

Kirstie, I always walk my dogs on a harness, it only takes one incident of your dog throwing himself about to do a lot of damage to their necks. Even my Greyhound has always been walked on a harness and he has always walked on a loose lead.

thanks mattie thats so nice! he never has walked beside me i noticed when he was 'delivered' to us that his old owner let him walk infront at full lead length which is something i have never allowed the others to do. and i will do what you said mattie after todays progress im sure tyne and me will get there just showed me that he does have a brain and can use it when he wants to lol. i must admit i did look like a right idiot lol but i must admit it is so worth it even after his walk today i saw improvement and hopefully will continue to

the thing is mattie the trainer who we are going to go to says no harnesses only head collars or haltis etc i think you should be able to use a harness as i find they are more comfortable for the dog

Why do you think women are called mad dog women? People get used to us making fools of ourselves, it is normal behaviour when you have dogs. cheerleader

If a trainer said to me that I couldn't use a harness only a collar or headcollar I wouldn't go to their classes, both can do a lot of damage to a dog, harnesses can also do damage but that is just bruising the chest. Collars can do a lot of damage to the neck and trachea, headcollars can also do a lot of damage to the neck and a friend saw a dog break his neck with a headcollar, this is why I am so against them, very few people use them right.

I think, and I am sure that most on here think the same, that you are very capable of training him yourself, he will mix with other dogs but from what I am hearing, there are far too many dog that have aggressive issues in these training classes, this will cause problems for the other dogs in the class. He can be socialised with other dogs by arranging dog walks for people with other dogs on a regular basis, many owners love these walks because they are with like minded people. Somewhere with a cafe or pub goes down best.

ha ha a pub would be better lol, im going to give the classes a try and i will if required remove him if he gets stressed or begins to stress the others out. i am prepared to do this as its not just my dog that matters. what i may do is put his harness on and then i have the option of taking it off if needed but i really dont see why i would have to i think id have more control of him with it on but the trainer will see. today we went for a mile walk and normally i would have given up and turned to go back home but he was doing so well and i was determined so we carried on and i think we all enjoyed it

Don't give up, this does work in a kind way but it takes some dogs longer than others. I know someone on another board who tried all ways including a prong collar, none worked until she did it this way, now her dog walks on a loose lead most of the time. Once it is established you only need to stop for the dog to come back to you if they forget themselves. You will find that this will help tire him out nearly as much as a good run.
