PostSubject: New fish added   Sun 13 Jul 2014, 9:59 pm

I bought 2 new fish this weekend. I went to 3 different pet shops and was getting conflicting information. THE first shop said I could get another 4 fish but they didn't have any platys so I got 1 zebra danio from them.
The next shop said I could get 2 small minnows but I didn't want them
The last shop said I could get 2 minnows and a shrimp or just 1 platy. So I bought a red platy from them.
No more now that's it lol I must stop my obsession lol.

This is the new zebra danio

My two platys together. The red one is the new one.

The others. I couldn't get 1 pic with them all in!

They are brilliant I could watch them all day

Now I'm looking at ornaments on eBay

Is there anywhere cheap to buy them from other than eBay. Shops are so expensive

Think I'm gonna have to take the platy back. The other platy is attacking him. I think it's 2 males so I could swap for. Female.

Poor thing is constantly hiding in the corner and gets beaten up whenever he comes out

You may have a male and a female. Male will harrass females so if you only have one female then she will be constantly harrassed - they are randy beggars!

I beleive you can keep males together and females together but if you have both you have to have more females than males. May be worth looking up how to sex them and see if you can tell yourself before you think about taking one back.

I dont have ornaments as such in may tank as I have natural products in but my boys all love their little coconut caves which I get off someone I know on FB

The new fish is a male the shop said and it's the new fish being attacked. The other one I'm not sure what it is so ill do some research.
I don't think it's just being chased because it's kind of pecking at it that's why I say attacked. I might phone the pet shop see what they say before I take it back.

Are you a member of any fishy FB pages? I only ask as you tend to get a better answer from owners rather than sellers. Some fish shops are only in it for the money (not saying yours is, but sadly some are)

It's not your area but North West fish fanatics is a good site. There is also one called J M tropical which had a LOT of members nationally but there are on occasion heated discussions. I can add you to them if you want and then you can leave it you don't like them.
I tend to stick to Betta specific pages and am a member of an aquascaping page but their tanks put me to shame lol, however they have lots if advice if you go for a planted tank x

Been keeping an eye on them this weekend and they seem to be getting along better.
The new one isn't hiding in the corner anymore and is swimming together with the others.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

That's good news. I'm trying to get my mums fish tank sorted. She has two goldfish which are about 6 inches in size so we are moving them up to a four foot tank. She had no idea about her fish and she just used to catch them, put them in a bowl and scrub the tank, gravel and filter in boiling water. She then added fresh water to the tank without any treatment and those fish have survived everything,
I am a bit worried that when I set it up correctly for her and show her how to clean them in situ the buggars will die!
My dad feeds them maggots as a treat when he is going fishing

Haha that's mad! Pretty tough fish!
I hope they survive, how awkward would that be.
