PostSubject: Introducing my b/f's dogs to Cody and Daisy. Help.   Sun 17 Aug 2014, 10:52 pm

I started seeing someone a couple of months ago and things are going very well. He has 2 dogs of his own. 2 german sheperds.

Today we decided it was time to let them meet up.

We both met up at an open space near me and kept all dogs on a lead to begin with. Cody was very submissive but friendly. Daisy was also quite submissive but also not very interested and was happy to just get on with her walk.

Now, the thing is, his male dog can be D/A so was muzzled. He got a bit wound up but soon calmed down and was a really good boy. The female is the problem. She likes to mouth/nip and although there is no aggression involved, my 2 did not like it. Daisy at one point refused to walk with us. Cody got so stressed he just pulled to go home. Both Daisy and Cody did snap and have a go at his female a few times but it didn't stop her.

In all honesty, she was a bit of a pain but he just laughed it off as her winding my 2 up. I actually think she should have been muzzled if she's going to keep doing that.

Any idea what I can say/do to help this situation?

Sorry for the long post.

Oh, and here is a pic of his 2 dogs.

Hi Lou

I think this will take time but you will have to be honest with him and tell him when your dogs dont like something his dogs are doing, if she in particular carries on doing it and it is not stopped then the Cody and Daisy will take matters into their own hands and tell her off in a stronger way than they did today.

I wonder if it would be better introducing one at a time? See if the female is as bad when she is on her own.
How old is the female? I wonder if she is doing it out of nervousness and it will improve as they get to know each other more.

I had a similar experience at training about three weeks ago, there is a 12 month GSD called Bear and she barks and lunges at all dogs and her owner does not allow her to socialise. We agreed to allow Bear and Belle time off lead together in one of the training rooms to see how Bear was and Belle is pretty solid with all dogs. She played a little but then when Belle got a bit more playful she started to chase Belle and nip her behind. Belle told her off in no uncertain terms and she ran away back to her owner. I put this down to her never being socialised with other dogs. It could be something similar with this girl?

Thanks. It was my choice mainly. Think the trouble with the dogs was the final straw.

Need to find some less nippy dogs for my 2 to socialise with!
