PostSubject: Boris is not well   Thu 04 Jun 2015, 10:33 pm

I have to take the cat to the vets tomorrow as he has a very large solid lump protruding from the top of his leg and he is limping. The worrying thing is it is solid and I'm sure it is a bone.

He's had some metacam for pain relief overnight and we are there first thing to get him looked at. I pray it is nothing major as he is not insured, I've never bothered insuring my cats and I hope it does not come back to bite me on the bum!

Is he weight baring at all? I wouldn't think its either broken or dislocated if he is using it at all. But can't really say much without seeing him. Fingers crossed babe. I hope Boris is ok. Let us know how he goes at the vets. group hug

He is putting weight on it and strangely does not seem to be limping this morning but the lump is still there, it's about the size of a golf ball

Could it be a hard abscess?

Sadly it is a very aggressive bone cancer which has spread to his liver. They are still waiting for the results of the biopsy on his lymph nodes but his life expectancy is approx 4 months.
We have brought him home on pain relief, he's on tramadol and we just have to watch for signs of him being in pain to know when the time is right for rainbow bridge

To be honest I'm very shocked as it was not expected in the slightest

Thanks Tracy. He's still very much out of it, it's almost like he is still sedated. He looks quite bad as well as they have shaved the area where the growth is and it looks awful, he looks really thin and old at the moment

The vets have said that based on where it is they would say he is over ten years old. Younger cats can get this but it tends to be lower in the leg, not sure why and to be honest I was a bit in shock to take in what he was saying.

The vets going to ring me next week to talk about what happens next when they get the biopsy results but it could not be any worse than it already is

Here are pics of the offending area that came up very quickly

He is not very well at all at the moment. He has not eaten since Thursday which means I have to put his pain relief down his throat which must be stressing him out. He barely moves and just sits in the same place in the conservatory unless I pick him up and move him. He does not want to be stroked or touched in anyway which is not like him. It's almost as though he is still sedated. I'm going to ring the vets tomorrow and see what they suggest

He is still out of it this morning so I have rung the vets and they have advised to take him off the tramadol. Some cats don't deal with it very well, and as he was fine up to going in there they are sure it is the meds. I'm not to give him any today and see how he is tomorrow, if he is no better tomorrow then I've to take him back in the evening

he has literally just walked outside within the last few minutes without me carrying him out. I hope it's a positive sign he's coming around.
He still has not eaten but has taken a bit of milk

I've bought a litter tray and some different food today, he usually refuses to use a litter tray but as he is spending all his time in the conservatory I thought I'd put one in anyway.
The food I'm hoping will tempt him fingers crossed

I've wafted ham under his nose but he's not interested. He's not moved since coming back in but we don't know how old he is so It may take just a bit longer to come to

He's been out tonight whilst I have been out at my sisters but since I got back at 7.30ish he Has been in bed. He has refused food again but I'm hoping that now he's been out is a positive sign

I've spoken to the vets today but they want to wait for the biopsy results before they do anything and have said they will ring as soon as they are back in

Poor Boris. But going out on his own is a good sign. I'd just go with him incase he has a problem. Lets hope it is the start to him improving again.

Have you tried fried (or warmed in the microwave) sardines, tuna or any fish really? The smell when luke warm normally gets them interested.

I really hope he is ok. group hug

It's so hard when they are not well.
