PostSubject: Insurance renewal   Fri 08 Jan 2016, 9:09 pm

My insurance renewal is in and is almost double last year at almost £600 for them both and that's only with £8k cover.
£400+ is for Reuben, I assume Belle is so cheap because she is a cross?

So time to start shopping around again

Cheapest so far is direct line with £8k each at £40 a month but excess is £160 each! I can reduce it to £80 each but obviously the premium goes up.

I have not claimed on the insurance for years so not sure if to risk the higher excess. Reuben is the biggest part of the premium, Belle is averaging out at £150 a year with most companies

I can't afford anything like that. I've spent all day filling in forms for every insurance company I can find. I'm going to have to pay a big excess, I've no choice

Who are you with Suzie and what cover do you get for £85?

Hi Jo

I get full cover - unlimited - no age restriction - but that monthly cost has increased as we did claim in the first year for both Diesel operation and Rocco cancer treatment.

It is very expensive, but sadly I can't afford not to pay it xx

I've gone with direct line but took a risk on the £160 excess each. £40 per month for both of them for £8k each lifetime policy

I've made a bit of a boob. With all the talk of teeth it reminded me that Reubens may end up being removed and I had just taken out a new policy with a big excess.

I decided to ring my vets to see if the vet had mentioned it in his notes from when he had his booster and if not I was going to ring direct line and reduced Reubens excess to £80. However from chatting with the vets it seems the vet made notes about it and if I put a claim in it would be classed as a preexisting condition and not covered.

I asked for a price and they said starting price is £170 but they could not put an exact price on it due to anaesthetic and if antibiotics were needed afterwards.

I'm going to ring the none profit vets where the cat is registered and see what they would charge and potentially take him there when it needs doing
