PostSubject: Strange behaviour when in a pack   Sat 08 May 2010, 4:49 pm

Reuben has been going to training classes every week for a year now and he has always enjoyed it and socialised well with all the dogs in the class. He is very well socialised and meets lots of dogs every week when we are out and about, especially if we go to the park. He meets the odd dog that he does not like but on the whole he is fine with most dogs we meet.

He has a very good friend Bess who is a Rottweiler, we see her at class every week and we meet up every weekend for a walk. He also spends a lot of time with my sisters Staffy X Max who is 6 months old.

With both these dogs he plays very well and really enjoys himself.

However for the last 3-4 weeks he has seemed a bit withdrawn when we are at training class and we had been working on the emergency stop and we wondered if he was getting a bit upset with me throwing the ball and then demanding he leave it so we have focused on easy work that we know he enjoys. When I say he seems a bit withdrawn he does not want to socialise with the dogs and tends to sit on a chair, if they try to play with him he stands there with his tail between his legs.

To cut a long story short my sister rehomed her dog this week and he went to live with Bess. We went to visit them this morning and Reuben refused to play with them, he stood there with his tail between his legs as he does at training class. When we separated the dogs and left Reuben with Max he was charging all over the garden playing and rolling around with Max. We then removed Max and let Bess out and he was the same with her. The minute we let all three of them out together he stopped playing and took himself off into the house, again tail between his legs.

I have no idea why he is behaving like this and will be speaking with our trainer again on Thursday but just wondered if anyone had experienced anything like this with their dogs?

This happend with the head trainers dog at class.

He was meeting so many dogs a week and it got a bit too much for him, she let him take a step back not doing all her classes with him and doing new routes of walks with new dogs.
