PostSubject: Billy back to vets   Mon 26 Jul 2010, 7:44 pm

Billy is booked in for 2pm tomorrow.

You may remember he went to see the vets a couple of weeks ago to try to find out whats causing the sneezing attacks. He was given some meds and an injection to which he had a bad reaction and his skin all bruised up and bled.

I have been checking him everyday since and he has 2 big scabs on his back and they still have not gone and today he had a massive sneezing fit and sneezed up a load of mucus from his nose. He then had a coghing fit.

Obviously if I intend to breed from him later, I need to make sure he does not have anything seriously wrong and need to discuss this with the vet.

He is still ok in himself and humping his teddy but I'm not sure if he has lost a little weight but again the vet will know as he weighed him before for his med dosage. Wish us luck. fingers crossed

I can't remember. It was an antibiotic. I can't remember exactly what he said so forgive me if any of this sounds dumb but it was along the lines of.....rabbits have a bacteria in them that is usually fine but stress etc can cause it to become a problem and it can cause sneezing etc He listened to his chest and said his lungs sounded ok but wanted to try the antibiotics as it had been going on for so long. He also sid to cut his food down to 2 tablespoons a day and give him lots of hay and grass as his diet should be 3/4 hay and grass and only 1/4 pellets.

He didn't flinch or anything when he had the jab and was such a good boy but as I was waiting for his meds I looked at him and noticed a huge red rash and bleeding under his skin at the injectipn site. I saw the vet and he said it was a very rare reaction and to watch him closely for 24 hours and if he stopped eating or had any lumps come up to take him staright back. He was ok though but the area has scabbed over now with a very thick scab. scratch

that will have been baytrill then :))

i weigh my pellets out to the correct weight of the rabbit in the morning but they also have the barlely mix and just grass at night ( dodson and horrel version of readi grass identical but 3 quid a bale cheaper lol ) plus add lib hay which is what they should have yes

baytill shouldnt cause issues if it was that one hope he,s ok though

Well he has now been given some more meds. I have to give him them then go back in 10 days. The vet said that it can be quite hard to get rid of the problem in rabbits crying

The medicine he is on is actually human stuff and I had to sign a form to say I agreed to them prescribing it for him. It stinks of aniseed and I have to give it to him directly not over his food like last time. The only way I could get the little bugger to take it was too lay him on his back and gently open his mouth while Kayleigh slowly syringed small amounts into his mouth. He looked so funny licking it all up

He hasn't lost any weight either, he is still the same as last time so that's good.
