Here, we have..."beware, dog on premise" signs. People must by law have clear & safe access to your front door only. I have a sign on both my side fence & roller door.
By law, if someone enters on either side, they had been warned. My dogs would be in no trouble at all for defending their property. If they came over the back fencing, their problem to! If they were welcome they'd of used the front door.

There is not much of a grey area in Australia.  Come in the front door, only when invited.

There's always great areas in the UK because we are too soft on criminals

Completely different subject but we caught someone trying to break into the back of our house. Hubby gave chase, caught the lad and dragged him back to ours and I had both dogs onlead going ballistic. The lad shit himself and reported hubby to the police for manhandling him

That really is a shame. IMO... comming onto my property uninvited you get whatever comes! He shouldn't be there unless he's hurt looking for help. The cops here would have told the bloke..... tough mate! You shouldn't have been in their yard after they arrested him.

I do hope your hubby didn't get charged!

I really dont like the idea of any sign , as we have been warned in our local paper that someone in a white van is cruising the blackpool and surrounding area's looking to steal dogs

Well that's a worry!

We don't advertise a breed, only that there is a dog(s). We are then covered as anyone coming onto the property illegally has been warned. We also have a problem with dogs being stolen (generally for bait dogs) or people that want a pup but don't want to pay for one.)

However, on the sign issue.... For us, it's a case of, "You've been warned! Enter at your own risk here." But I could easily be sued if I didnt have a sign up warning people NOT to enter.

Amazing how different it is country to country.

Lots of dog theft here Tracy as bait too, there are reports of houses having marks on fences and pathways to indicate dogs to steal and so many missing on local pages.
If we do not have signs and they get attacked by dogs then I beleive we can be prosecuted. If you have a beware of the dog sign you are advertising that you have a nasty dog and again I beleive you can be prosecuted.
Personally I think if anyone is on my property uninvited then they get whatever comes to them whether it is the dogs or hubby with his baseball bat!
