| I have seen this poll on another forum and thought it would be interesting to hear your views.
Do you allow your dog time off the lead or do you believe that walking on lead generates enough excercise?
Do you have reservations when letting your dog off the lead? _________________

| I try to let mine off on every walk but I am very cautious of other dogs in the area as they dint seem to be very friendly and we know which dog would be to blame if a fight broke out I like to give mine a good run or i dont feel they have been exercised enough :) _________________

| I try to ensure my two get some time off the lead every day. They are both kept on the lead in the mornings as we no longer go on the fields and every night I take them to the fields which is about a 15 minute walk on lead. We then have some time off usually playing with balls or the flirt pole and then back on the lead for a walk to the park and then back over the fields with Reuben before going home.
With Chloe I tend to go straight home after she has been off lead _________________

| Im with Linda, i let mine off every day, if there is a dog in the field im off too, i will go to another, or the woods or somewhere where there is no other dogs. If I do see some coming I put them back on their leads, same as cyclists, walkers, kids anything.... not teenagers tho They always come to me to stroke em anyway, so I leave em off, and when Buddy and Stella ignore them by choice cos they are too busy playing, they dont bother me neither. _________________

| yes, they are off lead the majority of the time, sometimes somewhere secluded or sometimes the park amongst other dogs. They are both uninterested in other dogs whilst off lead and won't approach other dogs
Although they are walked on their leads everyday too |

| My two are off the leads every walk, since both of mine have been attacked and Daisy can be aggressive to other dogs we tend to go where there are no other walkers, If we see other dog walkers ours are back on the lead until we have passed them.
What really upsets me is other dog walkers they see mine are on the lead that should give them a clue, but no they let their dogs come right up to ours with me shouting at them to keep their dogs away so frustrating.

| At home we lead walk to the fields then let them all go when we get there. Bit more careful when in some different unknown areas tend to let them off one at a time.
Sometimes when we get off the boat we walk for ages to get to a nice open space to let them go but it's always worth it just to see them enjoy it.
I believe you should let your dogs off whenever it is safe to do so long as your dog is trusted to come back when called and not bother other people or dogs. _________________

| Yep, only when we are in a field with no other dogs in and I am constantly checking to see if anyone has come in the field. Always practice recall too on every field run. |

Another good one to practise is the emergency stop, just in case your dogs ever run after a ball towards a road or another dog_________________

| I have an enclosed field where I am able to let mine off but have to drive to it. In this field the three of them are run together. They are walked for miles on their leads with my scooter. I used to let them off more before my mobility got so bad but for safety reasons I normally keep them on now unless in the field where there are no other dogs around. Polar and Freya both get off in the park if they are on their own but Rudy doesn't as he has been badly attacked quite a few times and can be a bit nervous of other dogs and I don't want this leading to any trouble.
I never let them off lead anywhere near other dogs all together as if something was to start on one of them I know they would pack together to stick up for each other and I am not prepared to take any chances. |
